Question
Thank you so very much for you prompt and informed repley, I will take you advise 100%, especially on the bone issue...so sorry, one last question, I would rather ask you than a vet!!

Q: Do Aust. Shepards do better with another dog in the house, and if they do, should it be opposite sex, another aust. shepard, and a smaller dog?  I know every dog is different, my dog is so possesive of me now?

Thanks so much again.....Steve

Answer
Dogs are social pack animals by nature and so they prefer the company of others.
If you female is spayed, the sex or breed of the dog will not be as significant. I find that two neutered males or a neutered male and a spayed female tend to have fewer personality conflicts than two females in the same household.

I believe that a companion dog should be able to play safely with the existing dog, so you should seek a dog comparable in size, athleticism and temperament. If seeking a second dog, I highly recommend looking into rescue as an option regardless of what breed you choose to incorporate.
