Question
Sorry , I was refering to your comments about invisable fencing, electronic collars, etc. Never using one I was interested in an experienced persons comments. I would prefer not to use one but it sounded like a safety option.
our boys are out of school over the summer so that would be a good time to get a puppy, once we decide.  In general, is there any specfic time litters become available, Maybe it'snot that easy?
Apparently there is only so much you can ad to a string of questions.   Thanks for your time.
regards Keith

Answer
Hi Keith.
Here's my biz email: pawsforpraise@verizon.net
I have a feeling we'll be chatting...

Summer is a good time, and pups are born primarily in spring and fall, so you should be able to get one.  Be aware that a really good breeder will pick the pup for you, and you may have to get on a wait list!  Whatever you do, though, don't get an Aussie from anyone who just takes your Visa card and ships you one. (*runs screaming in horror*)

If you have kids, there is one book I urge you to read:
"Living With Kids and Dogs Without Losing Your Mind" - Coleen Pelar
If you get an Aussie, find a positive trainer and enroll the dog in puppy kindergarten at age 8-10 weeks.  (Behavior problems kill more Aussies than Parvo does!) I would assume the small risk of illness, rather than have a behaviorally challenged Aussie.  Or, you may want to consider rescuing an older dog that is already known to be ok with kids.  These dogs can hurt when they nip, even when they don't break any skin - after all, they deal with bulls!  I suspect that if you are an active, non-yuppified (I don't mean any disrespect, just trying to make an awkward point), then the rough and tumble of raising a pup will not scare you or make you want to give the dog back LOL.  But, it can be trying - just like raising kids!  But, certainly, if you do all your homework, and find the right trainer, you will have the best, most versatile and intelligent companion in the universe - except mine, of course;-)
