alpha behavior

Question
11 year old Tasha, a German Shorthair Pointer, is an actively aggressive dog
to other dogs. She entered our family when our previous docile shorthair was
5 & honored her rank for about 5 years when she took over the alpha dog
role. She has assumed an invisible circle around her that no other dog,
including our old GSP dared to penetrate. The old dog has been gone for 3
years now and the alpha behavior continued any time any other dog came
near whether in the house, yard, field, etc. We recently acquired a GSP puppy
(9 wks old) and purposely chose a more laid back personality. Tasha growls
and snaps anytime the puppy approaches her. This not only includes food
bowl, toys, beds--but she positions herself in such ways that the puppy
cannot possible pass by her even tho the pup tries to skirt around. She snarls,
snaps and ferociously growls. Tasha has done this same posturing w/ any
dog that has been near.  Although we realize they are establishing rank and
rules in their own way, we are spending ALL our time referring the two to safe
guard the puppy. We worry what we will encounter as the puppy gets older
and less able to contain. HELP!  We really want to enjoy our dogs but this is
no fun at all and shows no sign of lessening. We needed the puppy to train
for hunting seasons to come. Tasha's temperment has nothing to do w/
health as she has always been athletic, strong and active.

Answer
Hi, Phyllis,

I haven't heard back from you, so I'm assuming you either haven't read the article I steered you to, or you don't agree with what I've said. So how are things going with Tasha?
