Question
We have a 9 year old teacup Yorkshire terrier who weights all of 2 1/2 pounds. He is the worlds greatest dog. he is truly maintance free.  He was trained to go on a training pad or outside if available.  He has always marked his territory and nothing we have done has helped.  It got even worse when my 5 year old daughter was born and then 1 year later we moved to a new home.  He marks our bed post, under our bed, any item left on the floor by my daughter,or any item that rests on the floor.  I had him neutered 2 years ago at the advise of my vet. to stop this behavior. But unfortunately this has not stopped him.  he has now even stated to poop in my husbands office or under the dining room table ( even that i can handle) but the marking of urination on thebottom of furniture or anything that rest on the floor for 15 minutes is out of control.  He really is the perfect dog except for this behavior.....Please help me I am tired of going around with my black light to see where he had marked and constantly cleaning my furniture and rugs.

Answer
You can put this dog back to basic training by treating him like a young pup and taking him out on leash every four to six hours, rewarding appropriate elimination.  Indoors, keep him on long lightweight housetab and put a belly band on him.  These are special devices that fit over the dogs penis and around his back, making it inpossible for him to urinate.  Maintain this re-training for at least 8 weeks.
