will they get on?

My brother and his wife have a 2 year old male shitzui dog, Mylo. My mum is planning to get a puppy shitzui, but doesnt know whether to get a male or female. There is definately no plan to mate.My mum has Mylo in the house quite alot and we want them to be compatible.So is a male or female better? Mylo is a very good natured dog.

It's always best to get an opposite sex companion.  As for whether or not the dogs will get along, a GOOD BREEDER will want to see Mylo so s/he can determine his temperament and match him with a puppy s/he considers compatible.  DO NOT buy any puppy from just anyone; find a legitimate breeder who is not running a puppy mill (producing many litters a year); such a breeder will conduct an interview with your family to see if s/he even wants to sell you a puppy, and then will want to meet all of you (including Mylo).  S/he will have references (other people who have purchased puppies from him/her) and a veterinary reference (you must check it); you may have to wait for a puppy, but it's well worth it.  There should be a health guaranty and a contract requiring the puppy be spayed.
