Question
we have a 9 month old hound mix dog. If  she is outside in the barkyard alone for a long period of time she barks. When we put her in her crate at night and she still barks. Our neighbors are very tired of her barking. We have tried a lot of things from taking her on long walks to having bark collar. We are really trying but nothing is working. She thinks she is in control us but how to do show her who is in control and how to we stop that barking?

Answer
Hi, Ashlee,

Part of the "hound's" natural tendency is to bark; they were bred to be hunting dogs, and that's how they let the hunter know where they and the prey were.  So a certain amount of barking comes with the package.

Here are some suggestions to help reduce her barking; if you feel you need additional help, I can refer you to trainers in your area who can work with you in person.  Just send me your city, state, and zip.
