two new kitties, older one peeing

Question
I have two cats we've had for three years, very happy and healthy, we have saved two kittens off of the street recently, we kept them quarantined until the vet visit, We took all four of them to the vet recently and they were healthy, the vet told me to keep the kittens away from the older ones for a week, so we did. so tonight marks a week, so we let them out. my older cats were not happy, one of my older cats peed on our bed. she has never did this, I know it has to be because she is upset or mad over our two new additions, we have been showing the older cats plenty of attention since we've had our new additions, the older ones have hissed and been seclusive of course. I rubbed the older ones nose in the pee and put her in the litter box, we are sleeping on the couch tonight, with the sheets in the washer, I cleaned the mattress with a brand called Outright pet odor eliminator. and I am letting it air dry. the problem I am worried about is that she will pee on the mattress again, even if we try to keep the bedroom closed, sometimes we forget to close it, I guess I really want a simple solution, other than paying $20.00 for a spray to spray on our mattress, that says if you spray it the cat will not pee in that area only the litter box, but if you think this is a good idea I am more than willing to try. which I don't even know if it works, and if it is safe to spray on the mattress, as far as us smelling it. I am willing to work hard to keep all of the cats but I was really wondering if there is an easier solution. I don't want to have to get rid of the two kittens, because this is a safe and happy environment for them, but I also don't want to upset our older cats. My husband put the new kittens back in their room for the time being and we have closed the bedroom door so the cat that peed on the bed could not get back in, i really hate introducing the new kittens, moving there food and litter box into the house, then moving back to into the bedroom where we had them secluded, I dont want to confuse them, but I also don't want to upset our other cats, but I also don't want pee on our bed! I know this is alot but I love them all so much and i am very worried I hope you can help me!

Answer
Ashley,

You shouldn't punish the cat by rubbing it's nose in the pee. That will make the older cat more resentful of the kitten because the cat will 'blame' them for the punishment. The cat is just showing you the only way she knows how that it is very upset.

A week is not long enough for introductions. It takes time for older cats to adjust to kittens. At least two weeks, maybe more. The kittens have new smells, it interrupts their routines, and they are having their 'territory' (including you) invaded. That is stressful especially if the process is not gradual.

I am including some links for introductions that may be helpful. Copy and paste or type the whole links into your address bar:

I this helps. It takes a lot of love, time, and patience but it will work out. And remember to keep the bedroom door closed until this is worked out. But make sure the older ones have a place to go that they can get away from the little ones. And if your older cats are males, they may not accept the kittens as companions or playmates until they are 'full size'.
