Question
I have a cat about 1 1/2 years old. She smells! I have noticed her playing in the litterbox. She scratches and scratches in there. I don't know what to do. When I am home, I shoo her out of there and find her something else to do, but when I am at work I think she plays in her poop!

Answer
Mariel,

Your cat is bored and has excess energy. Which means she is happy and healthy...just bored.

You should get her some toys like little furry stuffed mice that she can bat around. I get little sparkly craft balls that come in a package at the craft department of Wal-Mart, or a craft store. My cats really like them. A pet laser light is a fun thing for them. You can get them at PetSmart, etc. They LOVE to chase the little 'red bug' on the walls, floor, and ceiling. That would help her burn up some energy. A kitty condo that she can climb that is in front of a window is nice for them too.

It is like leaving a kid at home alone all day with no friends or (new) toys to play with. Have you thought about getting her a kitty friend? Cats needs kitty friends to play with, snuggle with, and to keep them company when you aren't there. It makes them more well-adjusted and they aren't so dependant on you for attention.
