Question
Hello. I have a cat who's about to turn two in March. She's normally very sweet, but lately I've notice she's been a little cranky towards me. And she mewls or hisses if I lightly grab any of her paws or her tail. I have never yanked on them. She won't let me check her for any soreness or tenderness. When I try to, she'll growl and nip at me, she doesn't bite real hard, more like teething me. I am a bit concerned. What do you make of this?

Answer
Courtney,

Anytime there is a noticable change in a cat's behavior it is good to have the cat examined by a vet.

Is she spayed? She could have been bred if she's not and goes outside. They react like that the first time.

That is how they react when they are in pain or have been scared badly. She could have injured herself, or she may have something wrong inside. It could be any number of things which is why she should be checked. It may be something very minor. But you don't want to take a chance that it isn't.

You should check for a medical issue before dealing with her behavior as a behavioral problem.

Feel free to write back.
