Kitten sometimes using the litter box

20 14:04:27

Question
We just bought a 8 week old Bengal yesterday.  He eats and drinks a good bit (we are feeding him what the breeder and her vetinarian reccomended for this breed).  Our kitten used his litter box two or three times no problem in the first six hours.  Since then the kitten has urinated in various spots.
We have two other cats, and neither use his litter box as they now prevere their cat genie.

Shane,

I would call up this website: http://www.hdw-inc.com/homepage.htm
It is an excellent Bengal site that has an email address that you can ask this question to Bengal experts.

It could be a medical issue or a behavioral issue. It's always good to rule out a medical problem first before dealing with it as a behavioral one.

The new kitty is probably nervous from the everything being new...new home, new owners, new cats, and new routine. You need to take it slow. Do not let him have the run of the whole house at first. It is too overwhelming. Start with a room at the time. Sometimes too, cats don't like where their litterbox is located, they like privacy.

I am including a couple of links that have informational articles on improper elimination that you may find helpful. Copy and paste or type the whole links into your address bar:

And here are good articles about introductions:
There is also a calming product that you can add to their food that reduces anxiety called Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is available on-line and in health food stores. Here is a link about it: (copy and paste, or type the whole links into your address bar)

Feed both cats yummy cat treats (like tuna or pieces of raw steak) TOGETHER. That is so the cats will associate each other with something pleasant.

Also getting a pet laser light (at PetSmart, etc.) is great for interaction between the two cats. They both can chase the 'little red bug' on the floor, ceilings, and walls, and they tend to forget about the other cat as they focus on the 'bug' which helps them get used to each other.

Here is are some links to a good articles on new cat introductions and the adustment period.
