Male cat urinating on couch.

Question
I have a 1-year old unneutered male cat that has been in the house for 4 months (he came from a pet store where he spent most of his life before).  I also have a 3-year old neutered male dog in the house, but the two get along well.

At first, this cat was perfect and had no bad habits at all, as I was worried would happen with a dog and an unneutered cat.  For the last month, however, he has started urinating on my futon sofa and my son's bed, and I am afraid to guess where else I might have missed.  What is curious is that he is not spraying like a male would, he is just sqatting and peeing like a female, so I wondered if it is not just marking because he has matured, but something else.  Nothing significant has changed in our household since he got here and his litter box is cleaned daily.  I still find where he has urinated in the litter box, too.  Can you suggest what might be causing him to do this?  Will neutering stop this behavior?

I really like this cat, but I cannot afford to have him neutered only to have him still have to leave my home because I cannot fix this. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Laura,

He is most deffenitly marking and in most cases neutering does solve the problem.  After he is neutered you should purchase a litter called 'Cat Attract' which is guaranteed to work just to help things along as it does take a few months for the hormones to abate after the surgery.

You will also need to clean the spots where he has sprayed with an enzym cleaner especially for cat urine, natures miracle works well to rid the spots of the smell and risk him coming back.

Good Luck!
