Question
I recentley moved and my cat started chewing on phone- electrical cordes , she has never done this b/4 , she was a stray cat she must have been neutered because she has never been pregnant what would cause her to start doing this and how can I stop it b/4 she gets electrocuted

Answer
Hi Diana,

Moving does scare everyone and make us all nervous being in a new place doesn't it?  I would put all her favorite things in one small room (even if it's the bathroom!), and for about 1 week with her food, water, and potty box let her smell HER things in the small room before she ventures out into her new location.  Small steps will help her get more used to what is around and then she shouldn't get too excited and nervous enough to chew on things that can hurt her.

Try this small room with all her favorite smelling blankets and things and visit her as often as you can.  Just sit with her and give her loads of love so she doesn't think it's punishment for the move.  But after you have your things put away and in order, slowly let her out to explore only while you are there for the first few days.

If she begins chewing, clap your hands very loudly to let her know that is a no-no.  Then pick her up and pet her and sit down with her.  Just like kids, attention of any kind is better than none, and after a move we are all so busy she may only be trying to get attention!  After 1 week settled in a smaller room with limited visits for a few more days into her new surroundings, she should go back to being sweet.

Let me know how it works out ok?
