cats and pears

Question
Hello,
My male cat (who is one year old today!) always gets a tiny bit of whatever we're eating at dinner, including dessert if it's an apple since he seems to like them. Yesterday I was eating a pear around him and he started going nuts!  Almost attacking me in his eagerness to get at the pear and biting my hand because I didn't give him a piece right away.  I gave him the core and he licked at it the same way he licks at apples, and that was it.  But today he did the same thing to my husband, until he got the pear, and then he became quiet again.  He's never had any catnip so I don't know if it's a comparable reaction, but why does he go crazy for pears and not for anything else?  He'll beg normally for other food (meat and milk) when he knows I'm about to give him some anyway, but he's never gone this crazy before! Any ideas?

Thanks!!
(Sorry so long)
:-)

Answer
I don't know the full story. It sounds like you taught him that behavior by giving him little amounts of food. I must tell you the truth. People's food is usually thought of as bad for cats. Milk cats cannot have or should not have. And lots of other foods cats should not have. May I recommend training your cat so it does not go near your food? There are a number of ways of doing this.
