Leaving my 2 cats at home on vacation

16:05:29

Question
Hi! I have two adopted kitties and have to go on vacation for six days. They are best friends but do love me and my fiancee. I don't have any friends nearby and my parents live several hours away. My mom offered to come halfway through the week to change the litterbox and check on the cats but I'm not sure that's enough. They both came from shelters so I don't want to put them back in a kennel, but pet sitting fees are outrageous! Will they be alright by themselves for a while? I have an autofeeder and auto waterer and they are used to them.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Cats can be left alone for a few days. If your mom comes on the third day it should be ok. But I would play it on the safe side. You need to make sure that there is backup. Get extra feeders and waters. Get an extra litter box. If you have these set in place then go ahead and enjoy your vacation. Two tips to keep your buds ok. Set up a radio to play some soft music for them. Cats seem to handle the stress of being away from their owners better this way. And set up some night lights for them. This also helps. Make sure your mom comes on the day she says she is going to. Have fun. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen
