Question
I have been feeding these strays for past yr. and now they are having kittens.  Need some form of birth control for females. Have a one eyed tom and younger tom in the bunch. Live in country and do not want to put them to pound.Am senior on low income but not low enough to get help with spay and neuter. I kept 2 kittens and now have neutered male 1 yr and spay female 6mo. indoor only cats.

Answer
Carol,

A really good group to contact who may be able to get you donations to have these cats trapped, tested, vaccinated, neutered/spayed, and returned to the colony is called Alley Cat Allies.

They should be able to help you or point to another organization in your locale.

There is no safe, effective, long term birth control drug for cats.  Even if there were, the idea of pilling that many cats constantly is daunting at best!!!!!

What we do know is that a colony of neutered/spayed cats are more effective hunters, more effective at defending their territory, and tend to keep the whole cats out of their area.  Thus the colony will have no kittens and, in time, their population will stabilize.

Please let me know what they tell you.

Best regards... Norm.
