Question
Hello my name is Rachel Besel and I was wondering if you would mind sharing some information with me about becoming a veterinarian. I have been interested in this career since I was about 7. I was wondering about the average salary for a vet? Are the college courses hard? What can I do to prepare myself? What are the easiest types of animals to be involved ? How much spare time do you have to do other things you may be involved in? I would really appreciate it if you got back to me on these questions. Thank You very much , Rachel Besel

Answer
Vets can earn from $50,000 to $100,000 per year depending on their expertise and where they live and practice.  In order to become a veterinarian, you would need to take as much science (biology, chemistry and physics)as you can and take as much math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus) as you can. In college, you will need to take the courses required for the particular veterinary college you will apply to, so you should check the pre-requisite requirements for that college.  Early in my career, when I worked all by myself, I did not have much free time, but now that I have been in practice for over 25 years, and I have other vets working for me I do have more free time.
