Question
Chris-

Am I being Impatient?
Here is the diary I keep on all my new tanks:

Feb 11th    Tank arrives and is set up.
Tenecor 125L 72Lx20Hx18D with Simplicity plus wet/dry filter.
45 pounds of Flourite substrate mixed with 40 pounds of Black Tahitian Moon Sand. Rinsed tank and substrate thoroughly.
2 96W Compact Fluorescent Bulbs on a timer for 12 hours a day.

Feb 15th    Add fish; 3 Cory Cat; 10 Silver Tetras; 10 Black Mollies; 2 Bettas (Kids insisted and I figured the tank was large enough)                        Ammonia 0; Nitrites 0;Ph 6.7;Temp 78;GH 6;KH3

Feb 16th   6 Black Mollies dead         Ammonia and Nitrites 0
Feb 19th   Add  plants:

1 Marimo Moss Ball
2 Anubias Frazeri
3 Java Fern
5 Anubias Barteri
5 Crypt Lueta
8 Dwarf Onion

Feb 23rd   Add Driftwood         Ammonia and Nitrites 0
Feb 25th                  Ammonia and Nitrites 0
Feb 26th   Add 30 Neon Tetras
Mar 2nd                  Ammonia and Nitrites 0

Mar 4th      One new Cory Cat died
Mar 7th      Add 2 Clown Plecos         Ammonia and Nitrites 0
Mar 7th      Found 2 Baby Black Mollies
Mar 8th      Ammonia and Nitrites 0 Scrubbed Algae off of tank and topped off water.
Mar 9th      Changed Floss Filter and rinsed pre filter in RO water.
Mar 9th      Ammonia and Nitrites 0;Ph 6.8; Temp 78      Getting IMPATIENT!

I have done no water changes added no media from existing tanks nor any commercial starters like Cycle.

Wait another week? Add even more fish? I have even gone so far as to check my test kit by adding a few drops of ammonia to the test tube to make sure it would register. It did,,,immediatly. I have set up larger tanks before with out this lag period for the ammonia to start showing up. I know the fish are not the best cycle fish either but all but were fairly inexpensive and everyone but the Mollies are keepers,,well except the Bettas which have their little divided tank waiting for them.

Thanks in advance,

Erik

Answer
Hi Erik;

I wouldn't add more fish yet. I have a feeling that when the ammonia starts to rise it will shoot up like a rocket, followed by the nitrites 2 or 3 weeks later.

More patience I'm afraid!

Followups welcome.
