Questionhello, can i set loose my horses on timothy grass pasture? on only i should set loose them on lucerne pastures? if i shouldnt set loose a horse on timothy pasture, may i know why? which pasture is the best for horses?
AnswerHello Caine,
Thank you for your question. A grass (timothy) pasture may be preferable to an all-alfalfa pasture for your horses, as fresh grass is not as rich in soluble carbohydrates as the legumes and is therefore safer for them to graze on. For any new pasture, you are going to want to introduce your horses to it gradually by increasing the amount of time they spend on it a little more every day. But once they are used to it, they can graze on a grass pasture 24 hours a day without concern.
Thanks, Corlena
