Question
QUESTION: im considering buying a horse and am trying to figur out approxate guesses. if you could give me general idea for things that would be great. i know how much things vary, but if you could help i would appreciate it very much. (and what kind of money are you using, ex. canadian dollars, USA dollars...)how much would a -good,(not expert,)young eventing horse cost?
-talented but unproven 2yo racehorse cost?
-promising yearling racehorse cost?
-trained 3-4yo trial horse cost?
-1-2yo eventing horse?
-1-2yo trail horse cost?
thank-you so much

ANSWER: hi natalie,
well like you said it varies alot. it also depends on were you live. so ill tell you of how i know it here in california. in U.S. dollar.
a talented but unproven race horse can cost any price here you can go to a lower rate auction and get one for about $5000 any other higher auction it wouldnt be anything less then $15000.
a promising yearling racehorse would mean it has to have good bloodlines, and goodbloodlines cost money the least it would cost is $30000
a 3 or 4 year old trail horse would be anywhere between $1000 to $5000
horses dont start eventing until they are much older so it would be a 1-2 yr old event prospect horse. it could cost anywhere from$5000 to $10000
a 1-2 year old trail horse prospect would cost anywhere from $200 to $2000
if you thinking of getting a racehorse i would to inform you that it is a very tuff sport. iv trained racehorses and ridden them. only 30% of racehorses accually make it to the track. besides being a tiuff sport it is also expensive. i hope my information has helped you and if you have any other questions let me know. goodluck with finding a horse!

QUESTION: how old would an eventing horse normally start training and start eventing? and how much would it cost if it been eventing for a year or so?^-^

Answer
hi natalie,
well they would be about 5 years old. that way the horses knees are fully closed up and it's legs are stronger. it would depend on what level the horse has been shown in. but basic figures would be about around $10000. if you look around you can find one for cheaper but it wont be less then $6000. eventing is an expensive sport and the horses that show in it are usually well bred and well trained for it. some of the best event horses are crossbreeds though. you dont have to have a pure registered horse to show in it. plus buying a crossbreed such as thoroughbred and quarter horse will be cheaper. and you get the best qualities of both breeds.
