retraining a horse

My girlfriend recently bought a 6year old mare that hasnt been ridin for a year what kind of training would it need because its having trouble with the reigns

hi Heidi,
she would need to take it back to basic training in the roundpen. teaching it voice commands again and then once the horse is good with this you would start to ground drive her. is the horse is not responding to cues make sure you spend alot of time with this. be patient and take your time. this step is very important. if you have any other questions just come on back and i can help.
