Question
Hi, i bought some Blood Worms from a local pet shop for my Yellow Bellied slider turtle, how do i get the blood worms into his tank without getting the liquid substance the worms are in into the tank?

cheers

Answer
Timmy, here are some ideas I have.  Some might not be feasible because I don't know how Sliders eat, and I've never really saw bloodworms.

1) Feed your turtle in another container.  If you use the same container all the time he will became used to it and eat normally (depending on how tame he is.)  This is the easiest solution

2)  If the worms are big, you can strain the liquid using a cheesecloth, or a piece of old linen, like a bed sheet, or a really, really, fine-meshed collendar, or even a coffee filter that.  Use an open-mouthed container, put worms in, and rubber band a filter to the top, then drain out the liquid.  If you need to rinse them off just swish some water around with the worms and strain again.  Or put the worms in some wanter and fish them out with a fish net, that'd be easy?  But the sliders might leave worm parts in the water after eating - againg I don't know how those guys eat.

3) Make your own worm balls... yummy! You can try freeze dried bloodworm.  Let them thaw.  Meanwhile, soak some turtle food pellets until they get soft (not too much water - you don't want them soggy.)  Then mix it together in a bowl, and start rolling into TIGHT balls and put them on a baking sheet.  Either let them dry normally, or put the oven on "warm" (about 160 D Farenheit) until they are dry again.

4) I dont know if this would work with sliders, but when my mud turtles had a pond I put a feeding dish (glass) in the pond.  I put their food in the pond.  When they wanted to eat they'd claim into the dish, eat and poop, and back into their pond.  Easy.  But mud turtles like shallow water so you might have to get creative with your setup if you want to try this.
