Question
I have a 2month old (thats what the store told me) red foot tortoise. it is about 3inches long. I have had him for about 5 days now. He is in a 35gal tank i have a 100w ceramic heat lamp on him and uvb light during the day. I have the beddin that comes in a brick and you have to soak it for it to expand in the bottom. How can I keep the humidity up and is this set up ok for now. I know he will need a bigger one when he gets a little bigger. I keep getting different answeres from different pet stores. Also i have seen him eat and drink but not use the bathroom or atleast I dont see any waste. what should i do? Thank a lot!

Answer
The best plan for raising young Red-foots I have ever seen is http://www.redfoot.com

Terry Kilgore ( http://www.turtletary.com ) has a simple to follow program (for cares, diet, etc.) that just plain works.

As far as humidity, try partially covering the top. When house humidity is low, it will suck the humidity from any moist source, so we either need to constantly refresh it or trap it in.

As for waste- they tend to eat it before we find it. Disgusting, but normal.
