Answer
Hello,
Thanks for your question

With all parrots there is no guarantee that they will talk. Some do and some don't. If you buy a baby there is no way of knowing for sure that it will learn to talk. If you buy an adult that is already talking, it could stop talking because of the stress of a move to a new home. A lot of parrots will learn to talk given time and patience. But keep in mind that there is always the chance that it won't and will you still love and care for it if it doesn't talk? Talking is not a natural behaviour as in the wild they would not talk to each other. A lot of African greys are good talkers but some never talk at all, they prefer to whistle instead. Each bird is an individual and talking ability does not really have anything to do with the species, more to do with the individual. Some learn to be great talkers and others never get the hang of it. If you only want an African grey so that it will talk, perhaps its better if you dont get one. Also it will be harder to form a one on one bond with your bird if you have two of them and they will be less likely to talk. If you will care for the bird even if it never talks then do a lot of research about African greys before you get one. They are very shy and sensitive birds. They are prone to feather plucking and can have a lot of behavioural problems. I'm not sure about the cost of African Greys in dollars because I'm from the UK. Thanks for your question and good luck with your bird
