Budgies and love birds

Question
We had two budgies but one died over the holidays. Can we house another kind of bird with our budgie? we have a large cage. We would like love birds.

I found your question in the question pool this morning.  I don't know why it was not answered when you submitted it.

What did your budgie die of?  This is important so as not to render your other bird sick.  

I do not recommend housing 1 parakeet with 2 lovebirds.  In fact, I do not recommend housing parakeets with lovebirds at all.  However, this also depends on the personalities of the individual birds involved.  A pair of lovies normally tend to bond to one another when housed together and, once they bond, they will not want any "third wheels" housed with them.  They can be cruel to other birds in this regard.  In addition, since lovies have larger beaks than parakeets, they can inflict much injury to the smaller keet.
