my african grey ate aluminum

Question
During our recent traveling, our African grey ate portions of the aluminum tray we were using to put his food in. If we were to take it to the vet would they be able to do anything to help it?

Answer
Depending on when the bird ate it, a relatively simple procedure might be used to remove the pieces;  otherwise, surgery might be required.  In either case, given the longevity these birds are due to have, it's very much worth respecting their health as you would any family member facing an emergency.
