mouse poop color

Question
Hi Natasha
I've asked you questions a couple of times about my mice Hammy, Cheese and Pickle and you've always been polite and given me really good advice.

Anyway, I got 3 new mice last Thursday as Hammy (The last one of my trio) Had passed away. These new girls I've got are only 10 weeks old so they're babies really. I don't know what they were fed on at the shop but I've fed all my mice on Science Selective mouse food so naturally this is what I'm feeding my new girls on.

(Gross bit coming up >.<)

Basically, they poop everywhere (Which I'm guessing is normal since it's a new environment for them and they're very young) But their poop is Black. Is that a normal colour?
Sorry for the really gross question >.<

Answer
Hi Hannah,

Black and dark brown are the usual colors of healthy mouse poo. Poops can be other colors, like bright green, from the dyed bits of corn meal in the seed mixes (which you may as well remove, since they have no nutritional value).

I'm wondering what color poops your other trio had, for you to be surprised by black poops?

Have fun with the girls: Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato I assume!

Squeaks n giggles,

Natasha
