female mice become aggressive with male

Question
QUESTION: My females suddenly became agressive with my male after three days of harmony. Is this shift in their moods a sign that they are pregnant?

ANSWER: Dear Kait,

I think that is very likely. Pregnant mice have to deal with a lot of new hormones just like humans do, so they have a range of emotional behaviors.

Have fun with the babies!

QUESTION: Dear Natasha,
its been over two weeks now and I would have expected to see both of my girls getting rounder but not a thing.... Dont they usually get noticably more plump during the last week? Is it possible they are not pregnant and just didnt like Goliath after all?
Thanks so much,
Kait

Answer
Hi Kait,

Although it is possible for a litter to be as small as one pup- in which case the mom wouldn't show much at all- it is also possible that they are not pregnant. But give them another full week just to be sure. Even experienced breeders can be surprised by a litter from a mouse they did not know was pregnant.
