Hermit crab claw loss

21 14:58:17

Question
My land hermit crab has lost his big claw. He seems OK otherwise. He has been staying in a corner of the tank, but he has not buried himself.
What can I do for him?

Thank you,

Andrea Andrews

Answer
Hello, He is likely moulting, leave him be you can check him every few days as long as you aren't really digging him out all the way and hadnling him, moulting crabs go under there bedding for 1-6 weeks during this time his lost claw will grow back, they shed there exoskelation at this time and you might find pieces of legs/shell under the bedding later on. Just be sure to keep his food and water regualr and mist the cage as you would...nothing has to cahnge..moulting crabs don't come out to eat but if he is just hiding he'll need his dinner! Also if you only have one please ghet another they really shouldnt be kept alone they love to be with other hermits.
