Question
Hi my guinea pig recintly had babys I have decided to keep them, I would like to know that if I keep them will there be alot more smell as they live in my bed-room? According to all teh pictures i've seen I've got either three males and one female or four males, I know the males cant live with there mother so they will have there own large cage. I use yesterdays news fresh scent cat litter as bedding and change there cage twice weekly I also let them out for exercise once daily, they all eat kaytee forti diet and romane lettuce and carrots daily as well as alfalfa hay(they are on alfalfa hay because I hear its good for there growth)does all of this sound good? I cant decide on how big the cage should be thou but I am thinking if four are to go in one cage then around  52"x28" is that ok? Also would you know what age the babys are to be weaned at because I've read 2,3 & 4 weeks.

Thank you for any help in advance.

Answer
Sorry for the delay in response.  All Experts was having a problem with a time out each time I tried to send my answers.  So I had to wait until the problem was fixed in order to get back to you.

Unfortunately with more cavies means more cage changes and yes more of a smell if not changed regularly.  Normally cat litter isn't suggested as a bedding.  Pine shavings is best for them.  Your diet sounds good except that lettuce in to large of quantities can be bad for them as it contains to much water.  If you would like a great idea on cages a wonderful site to use is www.cavycages.com .  Generally I take the babies (boys) away from mom around 3 weeks old.
