my shih tzu is agreesived

hi Kristen, I have a male shih tzu almost 3 years old and he had a few accident since i had him, including eyes operation and got virus from kennel.  he is a lovely dog and i love him to bit however he is not a lap dop and he always getting his own way.  One evening i tried to put him on the top of my lap and he was growling and he bited on the top of my lips and i ended up to the hospital what should i do stop his agressived behaviours.  Regards Grace

Grace, he does not respect you. I would recommend hiring a trainer that can come to your house and work with you one-on-one with him, as opposed to a group class setting. I would also recommend that you begin Nothing in Life is Free (NILIF) with him, to attain alpha status with him in a non confrontational manner.

If he's not a lap dog, don't pick him up and put him in your lap! Some dogs like it and some don't.
