QuestionMy dog, a maltese, is seven yrs. old. We recently moved to a new house 9 months ago. I've tried several spots in the house to find him a place to sleep because my husband won't let him sleep with us. I would put him on a bed but he kept barking. I bought him a bed and put it in one of the bedrooms under a table and I felt he felt safe. Now when we are gone or during the night he has bowel movements in the floor. I think he has separation anxiety but I don't know how to stop his "accidents". He always felt safe at our other house and slept on a bed in his own room for 6 1/2 years. Should I crate him again???
AnswerWhen people move, dogs are sometimes very disconcerted and can have lapses in their house training. That's because they don't generalize very well - the new house doesn't look like the old one, so they don't realize that you don't pee/poop inside this house either. Spend a little time going back to house training 101, and if you must use the crate, do so.
