Itching cockers

Question
I have 2 cockers from different breeders. I have recently used advocate on them and they're still scratching a lot.  Sometimes they keep scratching their ears too and one of them empties her anal glands by keeping licking her rear.  They both eat a dried by barking heads aimed at helping skin. There's no additives in their dried food .  Any ideas?  Many thanks Helen almond

Answer
Sounds like inhalant allergies.

I do have some ideas.  And some questions.

1.  How often do you clean ears?  And with what?
2.  Are you bathing?  if so, with what?

I take it Advocate is a UK flea prevention?

The first thing I'd do is try an antihistimine.  A bit tricky to advise on since you're in the UK but we can discuss that via email.

Inhalant allergies in dogs aren't the same as in humans.  They absorb the allergens through their skin.  So I'd be interested to know how much relief a bath gives.  You are literally washing the allergens off and it can comfort for half a day or 3 days depending.

If you'll write me directly at DeeBeck7765@aol.com we can figure out what you have there in the way of an antihistimine and I can tell you what you need and dosage.
