Question
I have a 12 yr. old cocker and she has lost both eyes to glaucoma. She recently lost her left ear from chronic ear infections and she suffers with allergies very bad. Biting paws constantly. Her back side is bare from a skin disorder. She has had it all. What can I do for the skin disorder? It is itchy with no hair. Her vet feels it is allergy related. Nothing I have used has helped. Any advice is appreciated.

Answer
Valerie, where do you live?  Climate plays a role here.

Have you tried an antihistimine?  If so, which one and for how long?
How often do you bath her?  Does it give temporary relief?

For the paws, try a 3x daily dip in half water- half plain white vinegar.  Best to do it outside or perhaps the laundry room.

Also - Aloe Vera Gel (not drugstore stuff) from a health food store massaged into her paws can give incredible relief.  I use Desert Lily which is readily available.

Please tell me everything you've tried.  And what are you feeding her?  I don't think it's a food allergy since it hardly ever is but a lot of people have found using something quite different like Sojo's Complete (a raw, dehydrated food) does help.,

Has your vet done a skin scrape or tape to determine if this is yeast or bacteria?
Have you used antibiotics?  Which one - dosage - for how long?  Did it help?
