Mini Aussie Shepherd biting and eating everything!

Question
My boyfriend and I bought a Miniature Australian Shepherd about a month ago and she is now 3 1/2 months old. She is biting everything. We don`t really put her in the crate except when we have dinner or if she needs a place to calm down. She is starting to get destructive, she will bite/eat everything and anything. She just bit the wall of our apartment this afternoon. I know she needs more activity and "interactive" toys but what are some specific examples of "interactive toys". She is getting much better at being potty trained, she sleeps in our bed with us and waits until the morning when I wake up to take her out. I just need help with the biting and eating of everything.  We typically only leave her alone for a couple hours if anything (sometimes his cousin takes care of the dog when we are not home and he isn't working).   I just don't know what to do with her.

Answer
You may want to crate train her, so that she can be left in a safe place while you can't watch her.  As long as she doesn't get to practice teething on inappropriate objects, this behavior usually stops later on, but may come back during a "second chewing phase" when the dog is an adolescent, then disappears again for good.  Interactive toys are things like "Buster Cubes" or toys that allow the dog to work for kibble.  There are a few sites you may want to check out:
www.activedogtoys.com (they even have a bubble machine for dogs!); www.premierpet.com; and www.planetdog.com.  Planet dog has some good chew toys.  You can also stuff a Kong toy and let her chew on that and work it to get the stuffing out (they sell stuffing, or you can make your own by coating some kibble with tiny bit of yogurt, stuffing it into the Kong and freezing it.  The cold makes the pup's teething easier and less painful, so added benefit there;-)
