Pup licking furniture

Question
Our family  has a very active 5 month old male puggle. He is neutered and crated every night and 5 hours during the day while I am at work. We walk him regularly and he loves to play fetch with a tennis ball so we play every day. The problem is that every evening after dinner he starts to lick everything (especially furniture). We offer him many toys and chew things to try to occupy him. Is he bored or is this something else? And what can we do to alter this behavior.

Answer
Hi Tammy, If you are giving him sufficient exercise by walking him at least once a day for an hour or so at the heel, letting him have a run and are giving him proper items to chew, he should stop the behavior if you continue to properly correct it. Is he by chance focusing on licking leather couches and chairs in particular by any chance? If so, it seems to be something we see a lot in our business. There is some association being made with the leather furniture and leather chew toys. Since he is doing it at a particular time, I would highly recommend that you take him for another good walk at the heel to exercise his body and mind prior to sleep time. Thanks for writing. Leave me some feedback and let me know how things go for you. Regards, Susan
