My adopted Red Heeler

Question
I feel kind of silly asking this question but here goes. I recently adopted a Red Heeler who is just sweet as can be. Before I adopted her she was attacked by another dog and required several stitches. Having read up on her breed she doesn't meet any of the characteristics. She is very mellow, always wants to cuddle and very quiet. While I am very happy with this I am wondering this is because of her attack and if it will change once she gets past the attack. No matter what we are in love with her and she is in her forever home. I just want to know what to expect.

Answer
She sounds like a sweetie! The fact is, in every breed, there are a wide variety of personalities. And this may just be who she is. It's also possible that you are in what rescuers call the "honeymoon period" when the dog is taking in the dynamics of the new home and trying to figure out where they can fit in. Sometimes they really come out of their shell in a few months. Until then, they are trying to stay out of trouble. Sandy Case BFA MEd CPDT www.positivelycanine.com
