Question
why does my dog eat grass?

Answer
Hey Rich,   There are many reasons (or theories) of why dogs eat grass.  Some say that grass settles their stomachs when they have an upset, others feel it's a sign the dog isn't getting all the nutrients it needs & it eats grass to supplement it's diet.
My thoughts are this:  Dogs, by nature, are regurgitaters, meaning that they can almost throw up at will.  They feeds their pups & other pack members in this way.  This way, they can carry food over long distances without fear of other, bigger, tougher critters taking it away from them, it's in their stomachs.
I  feel that dogs get a good feeling from this regurgitation process, kind of like a "high" or a "rush", even though it doesn't look that way to us.  Grass acts as a catalyst for all this & some dogs get into a habit of eating grass for this reason.  Belive me, I've had some real "cows" in this area.
Having said all that, they probably eat grass for any number of reasons, so all the theories on this are probably correct to some extent.    Hope this helped a little Rich,
Thanks for asking,  Rob
