Question
I have recently gotten a 1yr old pit mix and I often find when I leave the house to go to work she howls , is there a way to put a stop to this before my neighbors get tired of hearing her !?

Answer
Usually, dogs only howl for a short time after the owner leaves, maybe 15-20 minutes at most.  You may want to ask the neighbors if it's longer than that (or tape her) so that you will know, and try to address it.  If it's just a short time, they may not care, and the best thing might be for you to ignore it (behavior that doesn't get rewarded or acknowledged often fades on its own)  A couple of things you also can try - you can leave her an interactive toy, such as a Buster Cube, or a Kong, filled with some tidbits that she has to work to get at.  This provides both mental stimulation, and a pretty immediate "occupation" that isn't howling.  If that doesn't work, and you really fear eviction or at least complaints, then you could try a citronella collar: http://www.petguys.com/-759023035150.html
Hope this helps.  Let me know if there's anything else I can clarify or answer for you.
