Questionwe recently got a new jack russel pup, and we have another existing adult dog who is also a jack but he is completely deaf. would the deaf dog understand when and if he hurts the pup as he is deaf? many thanks
AnswerHi Francesca
What a good question!
He will learn to understand, but it will take longer than for a hearing dog, so do supervise their play for a while. Dogs use vocalization along with posturing and consequences to communicate. So, while your dog will obviously not hear yelps or growls, he will notice the pup's submissive (or fearful) body language and will certainly notice the pup walking away from a play session (consequence) if he has been too rough.
Have fun!
