Question
i have a 7 year old jack russel who is very loved! recentlt, however she has staarted acting very oddly. we used to be able to leave any food around but recently she eats anything within her reach. if i leave one of my sons nappies on the floor, even that is half eaten and the other day she drank the contents of my sons potty! what is going on?

Answer
Any sudden change in behavior requires the attention of a veterinarian. This behavior may be the result of developing disease or other biological factor; or it may be the dog competing with the new "addition": your son!  She may be responding to a biological urge to clean up after a "puppy" (your SON!), but she may also have a nutritional deficiency.  Examine her stool: is it small and compact, a normal dark brown (not black) and not too odoriferous? or is it bulky and smelly, does it contain chunks of undigested food, does it contain mucous or blood?  Take a stool sample with you to the veterinarian.  Since your son is not a newborn (using a potty), and if he's beginning to crawl/toddle, this could have provoked this unusual response.  But the vet has to be first stop: full blood chemistry and physical evaluation.  If she turns out to have no physical problem, repost.
