Question
Sir,
i have seen many confrontation of various LGDs , they grab each other and try to show their dominance ,which when obtained the war is over .can these breeds such as akbash be a self defence guard dog??

best regards. ali

Answer
The Akbash is a serious guardian breed not intended to be in the hands of anyone without extensive experience in canine behavior.  This is not a dog that belongs in a family environment, nor can it be kept in urban or suburban areas because of the ubiquitous stimuli that can precipitate serious aggression.  "Guard dogs" usually end up requiring the family be guarded against them.  Dogs intended for police and military work are carefully temperament tested after 18 months of age (minimum) and must be emotionally and psychologically stable.  The average person has no idea how to determine this stability and absolutely no idea how to train such a dog.
