Question
Hi my name is Karine I just recently moved into an appartment from a house. I have a cat named Tabitha and a couple days ago I had my old roomate drop her off at my appartment. But since then it seems like she doesn't recognize who I am...And I want her to know that It's me I'm still her mommy and I'm not someone different and she didn't get abandoned. Does she know who I am??? Is she just gettin used to the new place she lives in??

Answer
Karine,

Your cat knows very well who you are. She is just mad at you! Cats go by familiar smells, routine, and habit. When you moved:

1. You left her. She had to get used a 'new life without you' and a new routine. Now she's with you she has to get used to 'life with you' again. Even if it's been a short time.

2. She is in a new environment with all new smells (and maybe smells from previous pets), with a new routine to get into, and an unfamiliar home. She has to get a new routine, get used to a new house, and is probably missing her old place where everything was familiar.

3. She is blaming YOU for all this disruption in her life and she is upset at you for it.

She WILL get over it and forgive you...eventually (smile). Just give her LOTS of attention and affection until she realizes you aren't going to go off again and leave her. Also give her some neat kitty treats. Food is a great bribe!

PS: I have a cat named Tabitha too. Strangely, that is one of the top ten names for female cats.

Hope this helps.
