cat leaving the yard

Question
My outdoor cat is leaving my yard and visiting my neighbor's yard.  She is very allergic to cats.  She is not using their yard as a litter box but she sleeps on outdoor furniture, climbs on cars and will enter an open door into the house.  I don't want to give my cat away.  What can I do or use to keep her in my yard and out of the neighbor's yard.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
Dianne,

There is not much You can do. Cats do not know or recognize boundries. Your neighbor can help by not leaving a door open (get her a screen if she doesn't have one), and buy her some cat repellent to spray on her outdoor furniture, spray perfume, or blended orange peels and water to spray on the furniture. Cats don't like any of those. Maybe get your own lawn chair/lounge like the one the your cat likes at the neighbor's so maybe she will sleep on her own instead of the neighbor's.

Cars are natural cat attractants because they are high up and not much can be done about that except to offer to buy her a car cover.

She really shouldn't have any problems with her allergies if she doesn't touch the cat, or if she does not let the cat in the house. Allergies to cats are caused by the saliva and dander of the cat. After the cat licks it's fur the saliva dries and flakes off like dandruff and that is what is allergy producing.

Maybe give her a copy of this to show that you understand where she is coming from and that you are trying to resolve the problem without giving up your cat.
