too young?

Question
ok here goes, um

well I've been wanting to have a kitten companion with me
for awhile, but cant due to apartment rules and fees. But I
can next year (yay)

But I came across something while doing my research of
caring for one again. They say that its best to receive one
at 12 weeks rather than younger around like 8 weeks because
of health reasons of developing an immune system and
getting shots.

I've had them before throughout my time as a kid up until
now mostly at 8 or 9 weeks and never had much trouble
concerning health.

And most people (unless they hate em) can't resist
something so cute at that age and will buy them 6-8 weeks
instead of older. And yet they wont be very interested in
12 weeks for sale in a classifieds ad.

What should I do? or think of this?

hope to here from you soon ^__^

Answer
Curious,

10-12 week old kittens tend to be much more self assured, their immune systems are stronger and they tend to be less likely to develop self soothing behaviors like sucking on pets, people, blankets and clothing. Mother cats and siblings teach each kitten in the litter valuable skills, these babies get to learn what it means to be a well socialized kitty which means that they will be less likely to have difficulties later in life with their behavior and they are far less susceptible to viral and bacterial infections at 12 weeks of age or so. My recommendation would be to consider providing a home for a kitten no younger than 10 weeks of age and preferably 12 weeks, the older the better in this case.
