Question
I have a 5 year old female pitt bull name Mary Jane.  In the past few weeks, we have noticed her coughing quite a bit, mostly in the mornings.  It is not a productive cough (no flem), and it's not constant or anything, but it got my attention.  She is slightly overweight, but by no means obese.  She has only ever had one health problem before, which was when she had her first and only litter.  She ended up with an infection in her digestive system, but once I took the puppies off her hands, and got some antibiotics (from the vet, of course) she came through with flying colors.  Any ideas or advise?

Answer
Hi Samantha!

An unproductive cough can be a symptom of several health concerns ranging from kennel cough, internal parasites such as heartworms (which is life threatening if left untreated) and also lung or heart problems.

Early diagnosis is they key to treatment and fast recoveries.

Since your dog has the cough for several weeks, it's time to take her to see the vet so a diagnosis can be made.

I hope this has been helpful and I wish you the best of luck! Please keep me posted and give Mary Jane millions of kisses for me!Sending wagging tails your way!
