making a garden pond from a spring

OK sounds interesting and worth a try. Now how about after the digging? How do I harrness the water and get it to a pond?

We have a wet place in the lawn from an underground spring. We are trying to figure out what to do with it. I have always wanted a water garden so I hope to use this to my advantage. The question is how to pinpoint the source of the spring so as not to dig up the whole yard and how to make it into a garden pond that will be attractive.

OK Raylene this is going to sound crazy, but it works.
Take 2 pieces of wire, bend them in an L shape and walk over the area in question and find the spot with the most reaction. You cant use a coat hanger, it needs to be thinner
hold them loosely in each hand. When they cross that is where the water source is. First test it with water in the sink. You need thin wire I know mechanic's wire works. It is available at a harware store. I know it sounds weird, any thing else and you will have to do test digs. The source may not be from the lowest spot.

If the area is is wet from the underground spring I would think that digging will allow water to come out of the ground and fill the pond you have dug. If it is way down I think about the only thing you could do is drill a well and pump it out but that would be costly.
