African Dwarf Frogs

Question
Hi Chris, I have an African Dwarf Frog in a 5 gallon tank with a couple of white clouds, and a couple of hi fin black tetras.  I think the frog may have gotten his lef caught in the filter. Part of his leg is missing.  He seemed to be doing fine for a couple of weeks.  Today he seems to be slowing down.  I know nothing as to what I could do for him.  Could you help?  Will the leg grow back? Should I be treating his leg?
Thanks for your help.

Toni

Answer
Hi Toni;

Poor guy. He may have been bitten or he has an infection. The leg will probably not grow back but it may need medicine for the infection. I really don't know that much about treating frogs though. I would isolate him to another tank with no gravel to help his wound stay clean and protect him from curious tankmates. It must also have some sort of lid so he can't escape but make sure there is an air hole. Here is a web page that may help you more;

I hope he feels better soon...
