Question
Hi Patty,
Here I am again with another question!  My 8 month old (unspayed) female has been constipated for the past 2 days.  I called the vet yesterday, he suggested metamucil (2 tablespoons).  I gave this to her and was told it would take about 12 hours for it to completely go through her system.

She has produced several stools since yesterday afternoon but they are still small balls that are somewhat dry.  I mixed her morning pellets today with some warm water and she ate.  However, she seems reluctant to move around much.  After she ate this morning, i made her come out of her dog house and had to "herd" her out into the pen where she pooped and peed but then went right back to bed.

I realize it takes a while for this problem to resolve but I am very concerned that she is so reluctant to move around.  The vet does not seem all that concerned at this point.  It would be very difficult to transport her so I am hoping you might be able to give me some suggestions to help this along.  I have tried canned pumpkin but she does not like it and will not eat it.  I have also been putting a little gatorade in warm water to encourage her to drink.  Is there anything else I can do??

Thank you so much for your help!!!
Charlene

Answer
Hello,
Get some prune juice and pour it over her pellets.
You can also use a syringe or turkey baster and squirt it directly into her mouth.
This should loosen her up and hopefully take care of the problem.
What brand of pellets are you feeding her?
