QuestionHi, I was just wondering if you have ever heard of amazons having any forms of seizures while bathing under cold water. I've had my amazon for about a year and 3 times now i've noticed my amazon stiffining up and not being able to perch with left claw balled up after a few minutes of being very active playing under water in kitchen sink faucet which he loves. I'm scared to give him a shower anymore. Do you have any suggestions?
AnswerHi, Janice,
Most birds don't like cold water very much. You need to get your amazon to a certified avian vet for a medical examination. Seizures are very serious and your bird needs medical attention ASAP.
I haven't heard of birds having seizures while bathing, particularly if they love baths. However, birds will have seizures if they are terrified of something happening to them and/or if they have some sort of medical problem. For example, some birds will go into seizure when they are netted or grabbed/held, etc. Do not bathe this bird again until the cause of the seizures is known. Your bird can die during a seizure.
