baby mouse eyes opened/ floppy walk

Question
Brownies' eyes are opened but he isn't jumpy like he said he would be? Does that develop later or right as soon as his eyes open? I also notice when he walks, he flops alot all over. He doesn't stay on his feet. Is that normal?

He is going to the bathroom great. Stays by the hotwater bottle we put in his tank, (borrows himself near it).

I just want to make sure he is ok (he has no nipples).

Answer
Dear Kate,

If he isn't jumpy, it's because he knows you so well because you feed him.  That's great.  I hope the feeding got easier than it was at first?

I wouldn't worry about the flopping just yet.  It could be a problem or he could be just clumsy.  If he is still flopping in two weeks you will know it is something abnormal.

Sometimes a mother mouse will take a baby out of the nest if she knows it is handicapped or sick in some way.  This could have been why you found him.  However, it doesn't mean he wouldn't be a nice pet.  He would never know he was unusual.  My breeder, a very sweet fellow, loves the abnormal mice the best because they are different.  He has had some mice with cerebral palsy who were floppy, and they were really the very sweetest mice.  There were three of them and they were so adorable!  I enjoyed playing with them but it had to be over or on the  bed because I didn't want to let them fall.

But it could be completely normal and he will grow out of it soon.
